Mary Doyle reports that the Speakers Evening in May organised by the Training Officers was a great success. Five teams of three people took part, and the audience was variously informed, entertained and inspired by their stories.
The adjudicator was the Revd Beryl Smart who gave some constructive advice
on speaking to an audience, while applauding the standard of speakers taking part.
One member observed, “It is amazing what interesting and talented people we have in our membership”.
Most people have a story worthy of telling – it is just a matter of encouraging them to speak out. One good thing – the speeches were ‘timed’ as were the introduction and closing remarks, there was no rambling on, it was a case of "stand up, speak up and shut up", which left everyone wanting more!
We hope to repeat this exercise soon.
