Bury Deanery wedding fair

Published: 21 June 2010

The Mothers’ Union in Bury deanery is preparing to put on the first local wedding fair hosted by Mothers’ Union in Manchester Diocese. Lynne Longworth and Romey Simpson want to encourage couples to marry in their local churches and have taken the bold step of organising a wedding fair with the support of Revd Jan Harney, Editor of Newlyweds-uk and a familiar friendly face at diocesan wedding shows at Manchester Central.

Lynne said, “We want to encourage non-churchgoers to think about a church wedding and emphasise that it doesn’t have to cost a fortune; in fact it is often cheaper than a civil ceremony. We are holding the fair at the Emmanuel Church Centre which is an ideal reception venue. Lots of CofE clergy will be on hand to greet couples, as well as clergy from the URC and St Joseph’s Catholic church in Ramsbottom.

Zap stands produced by the diocesan communications department and literature about hymns, music and readings will be available. Local bridal shops, florists and cake decorators have taken stands.

The Bury deanery wedding fair is on Saturday 24 July 10am-4pm at Emmanuel Church Centre, Longsight Road, Greenmount, Bury. Entrance is free.
