"Drought and famine in Horn of Africa Some of you have been asking how we are helping the famine/drought situation in the Horn of Africa. As you know this is not a new situation and we have been aware of, and helping, drought stricken areas in Kenya, Uganda and Ethiopia since 2009. Salome, our provincial community development coordinator in Kenya has been in contact with Nic this week, and the situation is that there is little hope of rain, and the food reserves are all gone. Food has been imported by the government, but is too expensive for most people to buy. The situation, she says, is worse than in 2009. We have agreed that should the Mothers' Union / Church in Kenya plan a relief effort then we will be able to help with a relief grant. However, this is very dependent upon whether they themselves judge whether they have the capacity to reach those in need. Nic is asking for more information and we will use this area to keep you informed.

Although we are not a relief agency, we pull far above our weight at the grassroots level in all that we do. Your fundraising and giving to relief helps to equip a vital source of local support."
